This + That: Heatwave essentials

July 21, 2017

Heatwave essentials

Time for another This + That feature, aka my random lifestyle ramblings and updates (Check out the previous ones here and here). This one is brought to you by the current heatwave weather.

Because, it’s that time of the year again. The face melting, sticky, humid, don’t know where to hide time again.

Not a fan. At all.

I’m actually quite fascinated with how our minds and long-term memories work. I for one cannot wait for summer all year, only to realize on the 2nd day it goes above 30 Celsius degrees that I actually cannot cope with that kind of weather.

Probably the only way to enjoy this time of the year is by lounging by the sea or a pool, but since this is not an option for a whole month for most of us, we must find small means of survival.

Heatwave essentials for summer

  1. Clothing-wise I couldn’t more uninspired. I’d take layers, ankle boots, and leather jackets over summer dresses in a second. Nowadays, I’m playing for survival and also frequently checking THIS post for some minimalist fashion inspiration. My main advice: opt for silk, light cotton or linen this time of the year for maximum breathability. Also, grab a very light scarf. It serves a double duty: shades your skin from the sun and from the light breezes in the evening as well.
  2. The ice roller is the most important part of my current morning routine – along with an iced latte maybe. Yes – iced everything. Though my obsession with the ice roller is not limited to summer, it’s my single favorite thing to do in July and August when I wake up (or even during the day). It’s refreshes, depuffs, and massages the face in an instant. Follow it up with a face mist, and you’re good to go. Another summer beauty hack: keep most of your beauty stuff in the fridge, it adds a refreshing coolness to your skincare routine.
  3. Another one of my heatwave essentials and a morning routine staple – burning either peppermint, Japanese mint or eucalyptus. It’s such a cooling and refreshing sensation as they fill up the room.
  4. Ah, the obligatory water intake. Even though I’m trying to do my best, simple water is just so, well, bland. This is where fruit-infused water comes into the picture. Lemon/mint water is the easiest one, but I’m currently experimenting with more exotic mixes. Try one of THESE incredibly cool recipes.
  5. Seasonal shower gels. Isn’t the power of scents amazing? They have the magic ability to bring back old memories or even conjure up ones you haven’t even had yet – case in point, a Greek summer vacation. I’m currently obsessed with Korres – especially the Fig and the Santorini ones.

Other heatwave essentials?

SPF, sunhat, fan, water melon, blister plasters (life-saver, hello summer sandals), sunglasses, summer skincare staples, ice cream (TONS of ice cream).

How do you cope with the heat? xx
