So, we survived winter. I’m all for enjoying all the seasons, but it was time for some change. Also, time to get out of hibernation, shake off those winter blues and get ready for spring. Use these tips for some spring inspiration to revitalize your home and life, jumpstart your health routine, and prepare for a whole new chapter (yes, I’m a sucker for new beginnings).

10 ways to get ready for spring

Roam your local farmers market

Eating locally and seasonally is the best thing we can do both to our bodies and the environment. It ensures that the produce we buy is fresh, naturally grown and harvested, and most likely didn’t have to travel through half the world to reach our tables. See this list to know which fruits and vegetables are in season.

Fight spring fatigue

get ready for spring fight the spring fatigue

Feeling fatigued at the beginning of spring is completely normal, as, like nature, our bodies also adjust to seasonal changes. The lack of sunshine, vitamins, exercise, and the long dark hours all contribute to the depletion of our energy levels at the end of winter. Take increased amounts of vitamin C, vitamins of the B group, magnesium, and iron either in supplements or natural forms. Add some chia seeds, maca powder, ginger, goji berries to your morning green smoothie. Burn some energizing essential oils, like peppermint or lemongrass, aka my newest obsession.

Go outside

While it’s great to spend long winter days at home with hot tea, books, or Netflix, spring calls for different programs. Time to go out and roam the city, find the rooftop terraces and outdoor cafes, go to the market, see the cherry blossoms, refresh the garden, walk in nature, or even book a quick weekend getaway.

Eat the colors of the rainbow

One of the easiest ways to spring clean your diet is to add colorful vegetables and fruits, as it helps ensure you’re getting plenty of different vitamins and minerals. Radish, carrot, strawberries, spinach, lettuce, asparagus, spring onions, fresh herbs – the more color you eat, the better.

Get moving

While I’d gladly present myself as a fitness junkie, who works out 5 times a week, I have a love-hate relationship with sports. While I can commit to regular workouts, and after a short adjustment period I even enjoy them, it’s actually very difficult for me to start. Spring makes it a tiny bit easier (the fact that summer is alarmingly close also helps), so I will start to rebuild the workout habit. Ease into it, but commit to a routine for the next few months (here are a couple of tips on how to stick to your fitness routine). Also, don’t limit yourself to the boring gym, do an outdoor yoga class or bootcamp, go out running, or play some tennis – at least this is what I’m planning to do.

Switch from foundation to tinted moisturizer. Go lighter on the moisturizers and heavier serums. Get a fresh haircut. Opt for white, greys, pinks, blues for nails instead of black, navy, and burgundy. Enjoy refreshing toners and essences.

Get your wardrobe in spring mode

Spring wardrobe organizing is not just for those of us who sadly don’t have enough space to store both winter and summer clothes in the same space. I take this time to go over what I’ve worn this winter and what not, what to donate and what to hold onto. I also go through my spring/early summer clothes to see what I have, gather some inspiration (like these stunning summer minimalist outfits), make a visual of what I’ll be wearing in the coming months and make a seasonal shopping list accordingly. For me, this is essential for maintaining control over my shopping.

Spring clean your home

Think of spring cleaning as not something of an obligation, or a necessary evil for obvious health reasons, but as a ritual welcoming a new chapter. However weird that sound, I do look forward to spending a whole weekend cleaning, organizing, decluttering and get my home ready for spring. Don’t be overwhelmed to the point of desperation by the sheer amount of things-to-do, break it down to smaller projects. See this spring cleaning checklist for some guidance.

Jumpstart that side hustle

Trying to keep up with my side projects, including this blog was kind of a drag during winter. Honestly, I often lacked energy and inspiration, the sunset at 4 pm completely destroyed any photography chances, and it took a lot of self-motivation to keep going. But that’s about to change. Longer hours, more sunlight, a general feeling of freshness and new energies – spring is the ideal time to get going with your hustling. Take these couple of months until the summer vacation begins to plan, work, and create.

Pile up the SPF

It’s SPF time! (it actually always is, but especially when the sun is actually out). I cannot emphasize enough how important sun protection is. To see an in-depth post on SPF, click here. My biggest obsession at the moment is the Bare Minerals Prep Step Daily Prep Lotion. It’s a physical sunscreen(I prefer these to chemical ones) that provides ample protection due to the titanium dioxide and zinc oxide but somehow manages to do that without the usual white caste that goes with physical sunblocks. It has a velvety finish and goes well under make-up. Truly an amazing formula.

    Hi Viki,

I found this post very useful, especially the bit on spring cleaning. The page you refer to has a terrific checklist! This will make the spring cleaning less daunting for me.

      Hi Zsuzsi!

Glad you liked it. Hope you’ll be more productive than me, I only managed to do one complete room so far, and it took a whole day.
Clearly, there’s something wrong with my technique:)
